Acceleration of Bioprocess Development Using DoE and Physiological Control

Date: Sep 8, 2016

Duration: 20 Min

This webcast features: Professor Christoph Herwig, Department of Biochemical Engineering, Vienna University of Technology

Bioprocess Development for biotechnological high value added products is still a time consuming task. The reason for this is the high complexity of interdependence between process variables, product quality attributes and process parameters. The demonstration of understanding these interdependencies is however key to achieve regulatory acceptance according to Quality by Design (QbD) principles. Hence, it is important to set up senseful experiments and to gather as much as information as possible form those experiments.

This webinar demonstrates how experiments based on physiological key parameters can be linked to Design of Experiment (DoE) approaches in order to accelerate bioprocess development. This can all done inside of one tool, the process information and management system Lucullus.  First, an important approach is presented to check consistency of the data gathered, subsequently it is shown how limits of the system under investigation can be derived with automated experiments without sampling. Furthermore, several examples will be presented to demonstrate, that the integration of physiological control in experimental design, for example the control of the specific substrate uptake rate, is beneficial to save experiments, and additionally again increase process understanding compared to conventional DoE approaches. All this can be performed in the integrate Lucullus process information management platform.
