Secure health data services firm Bowhead Health has won a startup pitch competition run jointly by the Xcelerate and Biopharm America conferences. Bioprocess Insider brought live commentary of the event at Biotech Week Boston.

Presided over by seasoned journalist Mike Ward from the EBD Group, twelve participants – well, eleven as one didn’t show – pitched their startup healthcare focused companies in four-minute slots on stage at Biotech Week Boston.

Last week’s event, a collaboration between Xconomy’s Xcelerate conference and Biopharm America, saw new technologies and next-generation modalities battling to make an impact on the minds and cheque books of the venture capitalists and fund managers who made up the panel of six judges.

While pitches ranged from cancer-eating macrophages to non-hormonal contraceptives, the eventual winner was Bowhead Health. Presented by co-founder and head of product Francisco Diaz-Mitoma Jr, Bowhead impressed the judges with its data technology platform intended to produce real world health data analytics and find better health outcomes, in collaboration with life sciences companies.

“We are extremely grateful for all the support of the EBD Group and Xconomy,” Bowhead Health said following the event. “This recognition Bowhead Health received could not have been possible without all the support from our community, team and supporters throughout the years. We are excited to continue developing tools to advance better health outcomes.”

Bioprocess Insider’s Dan Stanton described the tech as: “An app folks, and [it] has tracked 14,000 bowel movements in the past month!” during a rampant live Twitter session at the event.
