Nile Polymers Inc., located in Centerville, UT, has recently commercialized a series of cable tie sizes based on Arkema Inc.’s Kynar Flex® PVDF under the trademark Strong-Ty™. These injection molded cable ties are readily available in 4-inch and 8-inch lengths and are manufactured and packaged in a clean room following ISO 13485:2016 procedures. Strong-Ty™ cable tie flexibility can be tailored simply by changing the chosen grade of Kynar Flex® PVDF.
Kynar Flex® resins offer a multitude of desirable properties that are not collectively available from other types of polymers currently used in cable ties. Kynar Flex® fluoropolymers are known to have high chemical resistance, up to a 150C UL® RTI rating, UL® V-0 flame rating, excellent resistance to direct sunlight for more than 20 years full exposure, high abrasion resistance, high radiation resistance, and resistance to accumulation of fungal growth per testing method 508 of military standard 810B. In addition, selected Kynar Flex® PVDF grades are compliance with FDA Title 21, Chapter 1, Part 177.2600, and USP Class 6. Some Kynar Flex® grades are listed to NSF® 51 and NSF® 61 and employ Arkema patented technology for low ion liberation during any subsequent irradiation.
Arkema received a patent in 2015 for technology that reduces the liberation of ions when a fluoropolymer is exposed to radiation. Due to the multitude of extreme high end properties described, Kynar Flex® is a well-known polymer used in automotive and aircraft applications, biotech, semiconductor, petrochemical, food and beverage, chemical plants, waste water and water reclamation, pulp and paper bleaching, nuclear energy, and building and construction plenum rated areas.
Nile Polymers Inc. sells the new cable ties directly but is willing to work with distribution firms and catalog houses that are focused on offering high performance specialty products. With the injection molding process utilized by Nile Polymers Inc., the Strong-Ty™ cable ties are surprisingly affordable considering the exceptional properties and long life stability offered.
“Nile Polymers is also very adaptable to custom colored products and is willing to change the general design of the cable tie to meet a customer’s specific needs for transportation, military, construction, biotech, or chemical applications,” said Howard Fisher, owner of Nile Polymers Inc.
